DICE, the developer, and Electronic Arts, as the publisher, have announced that they are preparing a massive pre-order incentive for their upcoming first-person shooter Battlefield 3, with those who put down money for the game in the coming weeks, getting access to the Back to Karkand digitally distributed expansion pack.

The downloadable content is oriented towards those who enjoy the multiplayer side of the first-person shooter world, adding maps from the now classic Battlefield 2 video game that have been remade using the new Frostbite 2 engine, including full physics supports, terrain destruction and better visuals.

The Back to Karkand pack also delivers weapons and vehicles taken from Battlefield 2 and players can earn new Achievements and Trophies as well as in-game rewards.

It seems that DICE and Electronic Arts have created the pr- order offer in order to show long term fans of the Battlefield series how significant the improvements coming in the third game in the series are, mainly because of the all-new Frostbite 2 game engine.

Battlefield 3 is an ambitious project, allowing the player to get into the role of an elite United States Marine as he battles threats in cities like Paris, New York and Tehran, with fully destructible environments and enhanced animations.

Karl Magnus Troedsson, who is the general manager at DICE, has stated, “We are gearing up for a fight and we’re here to win. Where other shooters are treading water Battlefield 3 innovates. Frostbite 2 is a game-changer for shooter fans. We call it a next-generation engine for current-generation platforms.”

Patricki Bach, who is the executive producer on Battlefield 3, has added, “We wanted to create the most immersive and emotionally powerful Battlefield game ever and we needed new technology to deliver on our vision. Battlefield 3 preserves the franchise’s signature sandbox style and even brings back classic fan favourites like jets, going prone and 64-player multiplayer on PC.”
