Battlefield 3 received a lot of details recently, but the first gameplay video has now been revealed by DICE, its developer, and Electronic Arts, its publisher.

The formal announcement of Battlefield 3 was a bit awkward, as only a brief teaser trailer was revealed, but a rush of details quickly followed, ranging from the all-new Frostbite 2 engine used by the game to the locations it will visit throughout its single-player campaign.

Now, the game has finally received its first gameplay video, showcasing portions of the title and how its action will play out.

The action is still a bit fragmented, but there are plenty of sequences that offer essential details about the game.

The overall feel of the video is that urban warfare will play a huge role in its story, and that the playable character, who we know nothing about as of yet, is going to be backed up by quite a lot of comrades.

The interaction between them, especially during battles, is also shown, with the player character dragging a fallen teammate from the front line and into cover.

We have plenty of open areas, like city squares, but also back alleys and dark warehouses.

The tone of the graphics is a bit on the gray side, so people that favor more color in their games should be warned.

Like any good Battlefield game, destruction is once more in the center of the video, with the footage showcasing plenty of explosions, crumbling buildings and intense action.

Battlefield 3 still hasn't been dated, but EA did reveal that those who pre-order the title will get the digital expansion pack Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand at no extra charge.

The pack includes four of the most popular maps from Battlefield 2, remastered with the Frostbite 2 engine and filled with brand new features.

Expect more details about Battlefield 3 in the following months, ahead of its launch, probably set to take place at the end of the year.

Until then, check out the gameplay video below.
