Just one year ago, Miley was really being an artist, proving the world her worth

From the headline, you might have thought we were about to see a video from Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana days but, considering her most recent changes in look, sound, and attitude, we really don’t have to go that far back.

The video above was recorded in the summer of 2012 and released in October that same year. That means that, roughly one year ago, Miley looked and sounded like that.

Take a moment to see her today, trying to prove her street cred by rapping about being a model who just got a check, “in the club,” “with mah shades on,” in the “23” music video released hours ago.

Back in the day (i.e. last year), Miley was more substance than style, made music that mattered, did not try to shock with her radical style because she probably knew that people loved her for her art.

Back then, more so than today, she was entitled to call herself an artist. Today, she’s just a pop star using gimmicks to get people’s attention while releasing easily forgettable but quite shameless pop songs.

Controversy sells and Miley knows it. Personally, I prefer the Miley who was all about the music, and less about the sales. How about you?
