Mobile game developer Rovio Mobile has just announced that the free version of its Angry Birds Rio title is set to make an appearance on the Android Market later during this week.

This would be the ad-supported flavor of the mobile game, which follows the release of a paid version, already available via Amazon's recently launched Appstore.

“Angry Birds Rio Free will launch later this week in Android Market, as soon as we fix a couple of issues,” Rovio announced on its Facebook page.

“The ad-free version is available exclusively in the Amazon Appstore, where you can download it for free for a limited time. Massive thanks to all Angry Birds fans who already downloaded the game,” the company continues.

The free Angry Birds Rio game would join the original Angry Birds in the Android Market.

Angry Birds arrived in the app portal in October last year, with in-app ads that enabled the developer to offer it for free to all Android users.

However, the company came up with a paid version of the game as well, published in the Amazon Appstore along with the aforementioned ad-free flavor of Angry Birds Rio, which should go for $0.99, but is listed as downloadable for free now.

In the new game, the original Angry Birds have been kidnapped and brought to Rio, where they manage to escape and would try to help Blu and Jewel, two rare macaws.

“Slews of rare and endangered birds are being held captive in Rio di Janeiro, and it's up to the Angry Birds to rescue their winged friends by cracking open their cages and setting them free,” Amazon describes the game.

The new game was released in collaboration with 20th Century Fox, which should make available on theaters a new animation movie, Rio, which stars the Blu and Jewel macaws.

The ad-supported version of Angry Birds proved a highly popular game on Android, with over 30 million downloads announced only a few weeks ago.
