He did not want to be known as the man who made a bad Call of Duty game

One of the leading developers working on the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has stated that despite his capable team and well put together development process he still experienced a lot of pressure when working on the game because of its huge importance to the gaming world.

Glen Schofield, who is the co-founder of Sledgehammer Games, has told Edge that, “We were very confident after Dead Space, especially with our development processes. We knew we could deliver within a deadline and with a lot of polish. And that confidence was exactly what was needed.”

But it seems that working on Modern Warfare 3 was still an overwhelming experience, as the developer says, “there are days when you think: ‘Holy shit, this is a monster’. There is a lot of stress. It’s not crippling, but the thing that worries me most is people going: ‘Look, there’s the guy who brought down Call of Duty!’ That scares the crap out of me.”

Before working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 at Sledgehammer Schofield was the head of the Visceral team that developed the first Dead Space for Electronic Arts.

The main development duties on the Activision published shooter were handled by Infinity Ward, but Sledghammer worked on both the multiplayer side and the Elite service, which will offer players more statistics about the game and exclusive content for those who choose to pay a subscription.

When the Sledgehammer studio was initially created rumors pointed to a new third person Call of Duty spin-off that they would be working on but that project seems to have been shelved for the moment.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be launched all over the world on November 8 and most players will probably pick it up on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft or the PlayStation 3 from Sony.
