Even if you’re not a “Star Trek” fan, you must already be aware of the buzz around the sequel to the 2009 film, which comes out in theaters next year. The first teaser trailer for it, called “Star Trek Into Darkness,” is out.

Check it out in full below, in the video embedded at the end of this post.

The Japanese version of the same trailer is available here: it’s also about 15 seconds longer than the other teaser, including a few more shots of Benedict Cumberbatch’s still-mysterious trailer.

So, let’s discuss: for a teaser, this is surely packed with a lot of action. The identity of Cumberbatch’s villain is still not revealed, but he’s clearly determined to make Kirk and the entire Federation pay for a wrong only he knows of – for now at least.

There’s a lot of explosions, a lot of destruction and plenty of adrenaline-pumping (but very brief) packed into this 1+-minute preview, but perhaps what I found the most touching was the shot of Kirk and Spock’s hands touching, while the villain wonders out loud how far Kirk would go for his “family.”

“Star Trek Into Darkness” opens in theaters in May 2013. Check out the trailer and let me know in the comments section what you thought of it.
