It may be another while until fans get to see the first footage / trailer for J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek Into Darkness” but at least we now have the first official teaser poster. Check it out in full above, click the image to enlarge.

It shows a man (could it be Benedict Cumberbatch’s mysterious villain? I think so) standing on a pile of rubbish, looking on at a desolate landscape which has clearly seen better, more populated days.

Considering the synopsis released only days ago, chances are this is what remains of the Star Fleet, as a war has been destroying everything while USS Enterprise was away.

“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis,” the synopsis reads.

“With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew,” it adds.

“Star Trek Into Darkness” will be out in theaters in May 2013, with a 9-minute prologue scheduled to premiere ahead of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” on December 14.
