The first actual gameplay details about Prey 2 have finally appeared on the web, and show some pretty impressive things about the upcoming game arriving from Human Head studios and published by Bethesda.

Prey 2 was officially announced last week, but the two companies declined to reveal anything else, instead relying on gamers to get their details from a wide array of magazines that had exclusive hands-on time with it, including GamesReactor, whose cover depicts the new main character.

That information are now appearing on the web, with a thread on the NeoGAF forums collecting most of them.

First up, Prey 2 won't feature Tommy, the protagonist from the original, which is replaced by sheriff and former prison guard Killian Samuels, now forced to act as a bounty hunter on the strange alien planet of Exodus.

The world of Prey 2 is completely open, with players being able to go wherever they want, talk to whoever they want and engage in missions how they want. Exodus has varied landscapes, ranging from deserts to cities, forests or cave areas, with all areas being roughly the size of the cities from Assassin's Creed 2.

Killian will be able to explore and go through these worlds with the agility of Faith from Mirror's Edge, leaping from heights, hanging onto pipes or balancing while trying to climb over obstacles.

There will still be a lot of shooting, which the magazines compare to the Killzone franchise, as well as a cover system that gives you the freedom seen in the Mass Effect games. You'll be able to customize your weapons and armor, as well as collect loot from enemies and containers, just like in BioWare's role-playing games.

Prey 2 won't have any multiplayer mode, nor support for new technologies like Kinect, PlayStation Move or stereoscopic 3D.

The game will see its first level take place at the same time as the original Prey, but you'll quickly be transported into the present, where Killian is forced to do the dirty work of other aliens.

Overall, if Prey 2 manages to deliver on these comparisons, then we might be in for one very impressive game. Look forward to more details, while the game is set to appear in 2012.
