Michael Myers is back, and he’s deadlier than ever

Some horror movie fans have been waiting for this for far too long, but the waiting is now closer to coming to an end, as the first official trailer for Rob Zombie’s “H2: Halloween 2” has just been released. With a release date set for August 28, the sequel to the 2007 film and part of a much larger franchise with a huge fanbase promises to bring to the big screen the deadliest and most violent Myers yet, from what the trailer shows.

As fans must already know, rocker turned niche movie director Rob Zombie has thought up “H2” as chronologically set after the first “Halloween” film he made, the only difference being that, now, the killer is all the more dangerous, having spent some considerable time exposed to the elements, away from civilization. The trailer does hint at a more blood-thirsty Myers, while also promising to bring the classic slasher story full circle.

Another promise of sorts that was made to fans a short while back, but on which the trailer sheds absolutely no light, is that Michael Myers will also be seen without his mask – as a matter of fact, early reports had it that he would spend a whopping 70 percent or so of the time in front of the camera without his legendary mask. Since the first official trailer does not show him as such, it is believed the movie studio and the director are literally saving the best for last, that is, the surprise for the big premiere.

Speaking of surprises, effects makeup specialist Wayne Toth revealed a while ago that “H2” would be full of them, including the aforementioned maskless onscreen time and several models of masks – plus more gore, of course. “H2” would bring a new twist to the story,” Toth, well familiar with the production, said, but, as expected, refused to offer more details on how exactly that was supposed to happen.

“There are a couple different versions of the mask, but none of them are the same mask from the first film. He [Rob Zombie] wanted to take them a step further, even though one of them is basically supposed to be the last mask. We’ve changed it anyway. Then, towards the end of the film, is the current version of the mask, which is a lot different from any of them we’ve seen. People are going to be surprised when they see it. It’s going to throw the Myers fans for a loop.” Toth was telling the media a short while back.

Given that the release date is still many months away, make sure you keep an eye on this space for more on the upcoming Michael Myers film. Meanwhile, below is the trailer. Enjoy.
