Superman is back – or will be at the end of next year. Warner Bros. has just released the first photo of Henry Cavill as world’s most beloved superhero and, judging by reactions to it online, fans are loving it.

Dubbed “Superman: Man of Steel” and directed by Zack Snyder (with Chris Nolan as producer), this installment is meant to reboot the Superman franchise in a way in which Brandon Routh’s take on it couldn’t – and finally do justice to the popular superhero.

For the time being, not much is known about the plot of the film, but confirmation has been made that it will star some of the biggest stars out there, including Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishbourne and Amy Adams.

In other words, it can’t disappoint.

Judging by the first picture from it released, it won’t. Superman is shown busting in through a vault of some sorts and, while he’s not doing anything in particular to put his superpowers in display, fans get to see a lot in the pic.

For starters, the costume is different, as Entertainment Weekly also points out.

It seems to be made of the same material as Spider-Man’s revamped suit, but it also comes with quite an impressive-looking cape and, apparently, no red underpants.

“A classic, retro-flavored Man of Steel, filtered through Snyder’s techno-sleek, hyper-pop aesthetic; somewhere between the drama of the Christopher Reeve Superman and the more subdued Brandon Routh Superman,” EW writes.

“The shield on the chest is thick and BIG. They ain’t shying away from that ‘S’ this time, are they? The crimson cape is long and flowing, made of thick fabric. Look forward to seeing it unfurled and billowing when Supes goes soaring through the sky,” the publication further writes.

“The suit: tight, textured, muted blue. I love the wrinkles at the wrist. The boots are red. Cool belt buckle,” adds EW.

Superman is also not striking a typically Superman pose, in the sense he’s not staring into the horizon, standing tall and with his chest out, but rather looking straight into the viewer’s eyes, while also being somewhat menacing about it.

All in all, this promises to be a good take on the Man of Tomorrow, EW concludes. Sound off in the comments section below if you agree – or especially if you don’t.
