Shortly on the heels of news that the Italian Supreme Court has found Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito guilty of the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher comes the first look at a new BBC-backed film inspired from the controversial story.

The film is called “The Face of an Angel” and is based on the book of the same name written by Barbie Latza Nadeau. In the film, Nadeau is Simone Ford, an American journalist, played by the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale, looking to get to the truth at the heart of a very sordid story.

Based on a script by Paul Viragh and directed by Michael Winterbottom, the film is currently in post-production, and it is expected to make its film festival debut later this year. In other words, fans will have to wait a few more months, if not actually more, before getting to see it in theaters.

Daniel Bruhl and model Cara Delevingne star opposite Beckinsale. As you can see in the first video released to promote the film (embedded above), the names of the main players have been altered.

In real life, Amanda and Raffaele were accused of murdering Meredith after she refused to have relations with them and another man. They spent 4 years in an Italian prison before they were acquitted in 2011, but the case went to retrial in 2013 and they were found guilty and sentenced to prison time a few days ago.
