14 DAY TRIAL // Just when about everyone thought George Clooney would never settle down, opting instead to go from one beautiful woman to another for the rest of his life, and his alleged fear of commitment had become almost proverbial, Amal Alamuddin came into his life.
Earlier this week, word got out that he and the very successful international law attorney were engaged to be married, with the news coming as a shock also on account of the fact that they had only been dating since October last year. Clearly, when you know it’s true love, there’s no sense in wasting time.
While reps for both Clooney and Alamuddin are yet to confirm the happy news, his parents have already spoken to the media, expressing their joy at the engagement and praising Amal for being an amazing woman, smart, nice, and very beautiful.
If more confirmation was needed, it comes through People magazine, which has the first photos of Amal’s engagement ring along with some details on how the proposal went down. First things first: the ring is a gorgeous and giant diamond one, and was spotted on Amal’s finger a couple of nights ago.
“The couple joined close friends Cindy Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber, in Santa Barbara, Calif., just five days after Clooney proposed to the stunning London lawyer, to celebrate Gerber's 52nd birthday as well as their own happy news,” People says.
The mag also reports, citing sources close to the actor, that he helped design the beautiful bauble. “It features an ethically mined emerald-cut diamond estimated at 7-plus carats and two tapered baguettes set in platinum,” People writes.
The proposal was very romantic and traditional, with Clooney getting down on one knee and presenting Amal with the ring during a trip they took together in Dubai in March. Both have already met their future in-laws since then, insiders reveal.
People doesn’t offer any more details in the online preview issue, but it promises them with the print issue, which comes out at the end of the week. Perhaps then we will also find out if the two have set a wedding date yet.
Before Amal, George Clooney famously dated Stacy Keibler and Elisabetta Canalis, both more famous for their good looks than for their career achievements. Amal, on the other hand, is a successful attorney and she doesn’t seem to court media attention as George’s previous girlfriends did. She’s also very beautiful and, as per reports, highly educated and smart.
