Christina Aguilera is making her comeback to the pop scene, currently preparing for the release of her fourth studio album, called “Bionic.” Just recently, the singer once dubbed as The Voice, released the cover art for the first single, “Not Myself Tonight,” and for the album, together with specifics on both. As promised, she also unveiled an 18-second preview of the single.

Produced by powerhouse producer Polow Da Don and written with Ester Dean, “Not Myself Tonight” will reportedly be an upbeat track that will instantly become a club and radio anthem, which the preview seems to confirm. However, on this little bit of the song, fans can barely hear that powerful voice that made Christina so popular and that she promised to use in ways never heard before in a statement uploaded on her website the other day.

“[W]hile the sample is a mere 18 seconds, sounds as fuzzy as the pop star’s Lady Marmalade frizz-wig, and barely features the voice Rolling Stone named one of the 100 greatest of all time, it’s the first anyone’s heard of Aguilera in years. […] While we’ll have to wait until March 30 for the tune’s full debut, so far, the new, Bionic Christina sounds a lot more like Britney than the Pitchfork darling her list of collaborators would suggest. The song features your standard let’s-hit-the-club subject matter – but don’t go blaring this one in class, kiddies. Xtina drops a few f-bombs. Apparently she’s still playing Drrrty,” the Vancouver Sun says of the teaser.

Be that as it may, this sample could very well be something specifically meant to throw fans off balance, it is being said. Speaking of “Bionic,” Christina herself said that she knew for a fact it would bring to the table an unexpected sound, a combination of elements that would take everyone by surprise. Of course, the release of the single will say more on that: it will premiere on Christina Aguilera’s official website on March 30, arriving on radio on April 5 and on iTunes on April 13.

“Working on this album with so many talented artists and producers that I admire was really an amazing experience. The artists I chose to work with added so many unique sonic layers to Bionic. My intention was to step into their world and what they do combined with my own vision and sound. The results were magic. I was able to explore and create a fresh, [hot] feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective. I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don’t think anyone will expect,” Christina said in a recent statement on “Bionic.”
