Following the availability of the first unlock tool for the Windows Phone 7

operating system from Microsoft, the first homebrew application for the mobile platform was also released.

The software solution comes from the same team that made the ChevronWP7 unlock tool available for download, and was released with the full source code included into the mix.

According to the development team, those would would like to try out the new app should have .NET 4.0 installed on their computers (it is available for download from here).

For the time being the main purpose for the new application is that it would offer users the possibility to select WMA files (only WMA files for the time being), which can then be packaged into the XAP file, and then deployed on devices.

The application will also require for the Windows Phone Developer Tools to be installed on the computer, so that all works as intended (the resources are available for download here).

“Once you’ve done that, and clicked “Build ringtone XAP”. The application will start windows explorer to the folder where the app was executed from. This folder should contain the “ChevronWP7.Ringtone.xap” file,” developer Chris Walsh notes in a recent post on its blog.

“Now start the “Application Deployment” tool at “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.0\Tools\XAP Deployment\XapDeploy.exe”. Navigate to the location where the .xap file is located and select it. Then click on “deploy”,” he continues.

The new ChevronWP7.RingtoneInstaller.exe was made available for download here. The source code for the ringtone editor is available here.

Undoubtedly, the release of that ChevronWP7 unlock tool (which can be downloaded from Softpedia too, via this link) will result in the availability of more homebrew applications for Microsoft's mobile operating system.

In the end, the tool was made available mainly so as to offer users the possibility to install on their devices more applications than just those made available for download via the Windows Phone Marketplace.
