Video game developer Epic Games and publisher Microsoft have announced that on January 17 the best selling Gears of War 3 will get the third piece of major downloadable content since launch, called Fenix Rising, which will bring more maps for multiplayer battles, new skins to use and rewards for all those who have reached level 100.

The newly included maps are:

- Academy – this is the place where Fenix was supposed to learn the ways of an officer, as many in his family had done before, but it is now lost to the Horde, which means that the COGs need to clean it up;

- Anvil – a once might fortress that included huge walls for protection covered by powerful cannons it proved to be no match for the forces of Lambent and Horde that assaulted it while Marcus Fenix met Hoffman;

- Depths – the beautiful but hollow Azura underwater processing center where Adam Fenix made the decision to talk about the secret he kept for so long;

- Escalation – set in Haldane Hall, the ancestral home of the Fenix family that was destroyed by locust to find Marcus’ father;

- The Slab – also known as the Jacinto Maximum Security Prison, which is now held by the Locust.

If they buy the Fenix Rising DLC gamers who have reached level 100 have the option to activate a Re-Up mechanics, allowing them to have their experience reset while keeping TrueSkills ratings and other rewards.

There are three levels for Re-Up, going from Bronze through Red and Green to Gold, and those who perform well can get a new reward for every level, a Plasma, Omen and Electronic weapon skin.

The new skins include: Recruit Clayton, Thrashball Cole and the Savage Marauder and Kantus for the Locusts.

Fenix Rising is offered for 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live and can also be obtained by getting the Season Pass for Gears of War 3, which also brings past and future DLC, for 2400 Microsoft Points.
