Players say that even on good systems there are slowdowns

Ever since BioWare, as the developer, and Electronic Arts, as the publisher, launched their MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic a number of gamers have been complaining about the low performance of the game, even though the specs of their machines exceeded the minimum system requirements.

Since then BioWare, through the voice of game director James Ohlen, stated that only a small number of those playing the game, about 5 percent, were experiencing performance issues, most of them linked to the low end nature of their machines.

But reports about pretty beefy machines (for example: i5 750 running at 2.67GHz, GTX 560 Ti video card and 8 GB of RAM) that fail to run the game perfectly pop up almost daily on the forums and players have disputed the official position of BioWare.

Those who feel like BioWare is ignoring their problems and the company should pay a price for that have organized themselves and created a informal group called Horrid FPS the 5% Solution.

They write on their Facebook page that, “We need to create a LOUD voice and be heard .. they would ignore us and sweep this under the carpets as they are now trying to make it look like this is NOT an issue and its out machines.. we know that is NOT CORRECT.. !!”

Apart from continuing to complain on the official forums, where they have already managed to fill two threads to capacity, it’s not clear what gamers can do to prove that BioWare’s position to act and force the developer to address the problems they are experiencing.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has managed to perform better than its publisher expected during its first month and the developers are planning to add more content to the game in the coming months.

Those who are experiencing slow downs in Star Wars: The Old Republic should first check out this thread which aims to show gamers how they might improve performance in the MMO.
