iOS customers take to the App Store’s reviews section to bash the social network

You’d think they have geniuses for engineers behind the Facebook iOS client, but you’d be very wrong to assume that. And if you assume that, you’re probably not a user of the app. Because if you used it, you’d know something is seriously messed up with it.

On May 14, social networking giant Facebook Inc. proudly announced the latest update to its iOS client application and rolled it to the masses with much fanfare. The accompanying release notes promised to improve everyone’s experience tenfold, but in reality, version 10.0 completely ruined the app.

“The new update is terrible! Why hide the most recent where you literally have to go find it?” Starr43 writes. “Why have top stories set for the main page. Every update your app gets worse and worse, Facebook is already going down the toilet on it’s [sic] own. I’m thinking about deleting my entire account, Instagram will just have to do. At least they don’t update every week with BAD updates.”

User Starr43 unfortunately doesn’t know Instagram is owned by Facebook, so switching over to that network doesn’t really stick it up to Facebook in any way, but it’s the experience that matters for the customer, not what company gets the user.

A customer identified as pink_angel23 chimes in to say, “I used to love using the app. Now it’s frustrating. I miss having the most recent stories option. I don’t want to see something that happened last night on my newsfeed for today. Can’t we go back?”

“Come on why do I have to go to options and more every time [I] just want to see recent news! This should be default! You just get worse and worse! Listen to the people and fix it!!!! We [are] tired of this stupidity!” writes another upset user identified on the App Store as Addiction2bass.

Countless other one-star reviews can be found stating the exact same thing using slightly different words. The bottom line is that customers are deeply upset with Facebook’s decision to alter the functionality of the news feed, setting top stories as default instead of the chronologically-arranged feed.

What’s worse is that Facebook has gone a week without addressing this issue. We wouldn’t want to judge the social giant too harshly, but this is not the first time they ignore a backlash from the entire community, which goes to show that Facebook isn’t afraid of losing any customers. Certainly not the kind of attitude a tech giant should display.
