Following the release of the hardware sales chart for October, which has seen the Nintendo Wii dominate its rivals, and the Xbox 360 outselling the PlayStation 3 two to one, the NPD Group has also released data regarding the videogames chart. The big winner is Fable II from Lionhead and Microsoft, which has sold almost 800,000 copies in its release month.

The sales of videogames have increased, when compared with October 2007, by more than 35%, which is impressive given the overall downturn the world economy is facing. The overall value of sales is of 696.79 million dollars.

Fable II has seen an almost perfect launch, with the game topping the charts even if it was only released on October 21. Fallout 3, the post apocalyptic role playing game made by Bethesda, also made it into the top 3 with its Xbox 360 version, despite being on shelves for an even shorter period than Fable II. Fallout 3 was launched on October 28, and managed to sell 375,000 units.

The second spot was taken by a long time favorite of Nintendo fans, Wii Fit. The fitness game that ships with the Balance Board moved 487,000 copies in one month, while Mario Kart Wii was at number four in the chart with 290,000 units sold, followed by Wii Play.

Saints Row 2 landed at number 6, while SOCOM: Navy Seals Confrontation was the best sold PlayStation 3 title, with 231,000 units sold, followed closely by LittleBigPlanet, which launched later in the month. Dead Space, the original horror shooter from Electronic Arts, was at number 10, right behind NBA 2K9 from Take Two.

With Gears of War 2 launched only a couple days ago, expect the November data to be somewhat changed. Red Alert 3 might also be a competitor, while games like Fallout 3 might gain a place once they sell for a full month.
