A sad Christmas for gamers

Fable II was one of the most expected games for the Xbox 360, largely due to the fact that it, or rather its creator, Peter Molyneux, promised that it would revolutionize the RPG (Role Playing Game) genre and that it would offer players a wide variety of choices for their characters.

It registered some pretty big sales, and, as opposed to the first Fable, it was met with very positive reviews from critics, who cited the clever AI (Artificial Intelligence) system and the intriguing story as strong points. Although the game offered a pretty solid experience, the development team at Lionhead Studios announced some time ago that a DLC (Downloadable Content) pack would be released for the game, in order to enhance the whole story.

The expansion, entitled Knothole Island, will give players a whole new land to explore in the form of, you guessed it, Knothole Island, which has been cursed to endure an everlasting winter and only the players can bring the sunshine to this cold and desolate place. The DLC was scheduled for a mid-December release, so as to show up just before Christmas, as a special gift for gamers, but it seems to have been delayed.

The announcement, made by Microsoft, the publisher of the game, reveals that, due to “unexpected technical difficulties,” the expansion of the title won't be launched on its original date, and that gamers need to be satisfied with the original game until late January, when this expansion will appear on the Xbox 360 Live Marketplace. Also, as part of the promotion for this expansion, the “Download & Win” sweepstakes will also be suspended until the pack will be launched.

For those of you who didn't know, the Download & Win contest was available to any customer who decided to spend the 800 MS Points on this new expansion, and gave them the chance to win some very interesting prizes like a custom Fable II branded Xbox 360 or collector's edition versions of the game, all autographed by Peter Molyneux.

Let's just hope that the expansion will eventually appear, and that gamers will be able to explore the mysteries of Knothole Island.
