EA Sports, the division of publisher Electronic Arts that focuses on the creation of sports based video games, has announced that one of the biggest additions to the upcoming FIFA 12 will be the introduction of a Player Impact Engine, that will move the physics elements of the game closer to the real game than ever before.

[ADMARk=1]The new system has been worked on for two years at the Canadian studio of EA Sports and will focus on the physical side of the game of football, with the new system working in real time every moment of the game in order to track a number of points of contact on a virtual player's body, delivering realistic outcomes when a collision happens.

The new Player Impact Engine allows gamers to see how physical a game of football can be, with defenders using their size and weight to muscle out nimble attacks while more technical players will be able to avoid collisions as they drive towards goal.

The Player Impact Engine will be used in conjunction with a number of new systems in FIFA 12, including one which makes the virtual player “think” at a real life one, behaving realistically on the pitch.

Both attack and defense have been worked on, allowing FIFA 12 to be a more dynamic experience and making it more thrilling for newcomers.

Kaz Makita, who is an executive producer for the FIFA franchise, has stated, “The transformation FIFA 12 has undergone is revolutionary not evolutionary. To create the best and most authentic FIFA game ever, we needed new technology to deliver on our vision. Fans will see, and more importantly feel, the significance of the Player Impact Engine immediately.”

FIFA 12 will deliver more than 500 licensed clubs for the player to control as they reach towards glory and will be launched on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the PC, the PS2, the new Nintendo 3DS and probably the NGP.
