Electronic Arts is still one of the biggest video game publishers out there, even though it has been overtaken by archrival Activision Blizzard. The company is on a new strategy, which doesn't rely as much on franchises but on new projects, but this doesn't mean that its hugely popular Madden or NFS series won't get new iterations this year.

Another prestigious franchise, especially in Europe, is its FIFA soccer simulator, which will get a new installment in the form of FIFA 10, on October 2. Heading to a variety of platforms, including the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, PlayStation 2, DS and the PlayStation Portable, a lot of soccer fans will get their FIFA fix this fall.

After revealing quite a lot of details surrounding the game, the company has now announced the cover athletes of the title for the UK region, and has also mentioned that some territories, like Germany, will be getting modified covers with local soccer players.

For the UK, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will be checking his fifth year on the cover, and will be joined by Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard and Arsenal's young star Theo Walcott. Lampard is at his second cover, while the Arsenal player is making his debut on the prestigious soccer simulator.

“FIFA is definitely the best football game on the market, and I am delighted to be featured on the cover again,” Manchester United and England striker, Wayne Rooney, said. “I play the game regularly online and against a lot of the lads at the club and I’m looking forward to the 360 degree control as it will make FIFA even more realistic than any other football game out there.”

“We’re delighted to welcome both Frank and Theo to the EA SPORTS FIFA franchise for the 2009-2010 season,” said Trevor Uzice, marketing manager for FIFA 10. “Along with Wayne, they represent the very best of English football talent and we’re proud to have them join us for FIFA 10.”

FIFA 10 will have a lot of new features, including a more authentic gameplay, which will mirror a real-world football experience, including more sophisticated ball control and physical interaction between players.
