Codemasters has just announced the latest installment in its Formula 1 simulator series, F1 2011, which, even if the F1 racing season starts this weekend, will be launched in September.

F1 2010, despite a few flaws and some issues with graphics, was very well received, so Codemasters has now decided to launch its sequel, F1 2011, right towards the end of the actual 2011 Formula 1 season.

Release schedule issues aside, F1 2011 is set to arrive on current generation platforms like the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, as well as to see custom versions be made for upcoming portable devices like the Nintendo 3DS or Sony's Next Generation Portable, both set to take advantage of their unique capabilities.

"In F1 2011 players will be challenged to ‘Be the driver, live the life, go compete’, with wide-ranging technical and gameplay advancements on and off track and vastly extended competitive and co-operative multiplayer components," revealed Codemasters after the announcement.

F1 2011 will include all of the drivers and teams that will compete in the 2011 F1 season, including reigning champion Sebastian Vettel. New tracks like the Grand Prix of India, at the Delhi Jaypee International Race Circuit will be included, as well as the iconic Nurburgring track.

F1 2011 is built on Codemasters' EGO engine, which also powered the previous F1 2011 title, and is set to be properly showcased with the upcoming Dirt 3 racing game, that is going to be released on May 24.

Codemasters is also banking big on the community of F1 fans, and has released a video, embedded below, in which the company asks gamers to submit one question about F1 2011.

Fans who ask the best ones will be chosen and invited to the Codemasters headquarters in Birmingham, where they'll be able to have exclusive first looks at the new racing game, as well as appear in developer diaries from the studio.

F1 2011 will be released on September 23 for all of the major platforms, with handheld editions following shortly thereafter.
