Quite the system hog

F.E.A.R. 2 is one of the most eagerly expected first person shooters of 2009. The game is set to arrive for the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC and the release dates are February 10 for North America and February 13 for Europe. And now potential players can check if their systems are good enough to run the next generation of horror shooters.

Even the minimum system requirements seem pretty steep. Players will need to have a Pentium 4 processor running at 2.8 Ghz, or 3.2 Ghz if they are running Vista, or an Athlon 64 3000 + paired up with at least 1 GB of RAM (or 1.5 GB if Vista is your operating system of choice).

F.E.A.R. 2 also requires a video card compatible with DirectX 9 and has 256 MB of RAM, with the Nvidia 6800 and the ATI X700 being the cheapest processors capable of running the game. You also need a DVD player to install the game and a high speed Internet connection if you plan to go online for multiplayer.

The developers at Monolith are recommending another type of system to make sure that the player can enjoy the astounding graphical quality of the game. They aim for a Core 2 Duo processor running at 2.2 Ghz or 3.2 Ghz with Vista or an Athlon 64 X2 4400 + paired up with 1.5 GB of RAM system memory. The video card should have 512 MB of RAM and at least an Nvidia 8600 GTS or an ATI HD 2900 XT powering it.

F.E.A.R. 2 is set to continue the story of the first game, without taking into account the two expansions not created by Monolith. It seems that Alma, the creepy little girl with supernatural powers, will play a much larger role in this game, while the player will have a chance to experience parts of the game while encased in something which looks a lot like power armor.
