Katie Jacobs says, this time, appearances are not deceiving

This has been in the making since last season, when Dr. Gregory House lost it and hallucinated a romance with his direct superior and favorite target for jokes, Dr. Cuddy. On the season 6 finale, which aired the other night, a major development in their relationship occurs, so important that Michael Ausiello of The Ausiello Files called up executive producer Katie Jacobs to see what direction the next season might take.

Jacobs spared no details and was upfront about the whole thing: unlike the previous season, which was misleading in more ways than one, everything we see in the finale is real. There are no hallucinations and no drug-induced fantasies: what happens onscreen is the premise for events that will be further detailed in the next season, the executive producer promises, which should bring a smile of joy on the face of many a fan.

So, what’s the big development that takes place at the end of this season? As expected, House and Cuddy lock lips, in what promises to be the opening chapter for a new type of bond between them. “This is real and something that they are going to try. It’s something they stayed away from for a long period of time because it’s dangerous and the consequences could be severe. But now they’re going to give it a try,” Jacobs says. The challenge for Huddy, as the two as a couple are often called by their fans, will be to try to make the relationship work despite all impediments.

Asked whether season 7 will pick the story up immediately where it was left off, or sometime later, Jacobs says she’d personally go for the former. “I’m certainly in the camp of not wanting to miss much after the fade to black. Because the truth is the challenges that are ahead for them are the things that kept them apart to begin with. It’s not chemistry or the spark. It’s ‘How are we going to deal with this? We’re going to be together. What does that look like?’ Cuddy is his superior at the hospital. And she’s a mother. Those are the kind of things we’re going to have fun with,” she explains.

At the same time, the producer also assures fans (especially if they’ve been rooting for Huddy all along) that the hallucinated love scene from the previous season will take place for real in season 7, no buts or maybes about it. However, how exactly it may happen she doesn’t say, but see here for more details on it.
