A new flavor of Evernote for Android is now available for download from the Android Market, namely version 3, with a wide range of enhancements when compared to the previous releases.

The developers behind this application note that they have been set to pack a great deal of features in a single release of any Evernote product, and this is the first time this happens.

“We’ve added sharing, organizational features, improved text editing, security options, new views, a revamped widget, and tons more. Take a look at what’s new in version 3,” the development team notes in a blog post.

Among the new features packed with the application, we can count the fact that it offers users the possibility to browser through the notebooks that have been shared with them.

Moreover, the app offers users the possibility to edit notebook contents, provided that the user who is sharing the notebook is a Premium subscriber. “This feature turns Evernote into a great mobile collaboration tool,” the team explains.

They also announced that Premium users should enjoy a wider range of features, including the possibility to take the notebook offline. Any changes made to the notebook in the meantime will be synced as soon as the user goes online again.

Other enhancements included with the application would be the possibility to easily post any single note to Facebook, or to share to other networking sites right from the phone.

To share to Facebook, one would simply have to open the note, then tap on the menu button and choose Post. To share to other apps, users would simply have to tap the Menu button, then tap More and choose Share.

Android users are also offered the possibility to create notes within notebooks, not to mention that they can also create new notebooks straight from their devices, something that are not available for them before.

“Now, Evernote for Android lets you create a notebook whenever you like. To make a new notebook, tap on the Notebook icon on the app’s home screen. Next, tap on the Menu button and choose the New Notebook option,” the company explains.

“This update also includes improved support for Notebook Stacks. When viewing your notebook list, you can collapse stacks to hide notebooks you don’t need. Tap and hold on a notebooks to either move it into an existing stack or to create a new one.”

With the new Evernote application flavor, users would have the notes tagged with a location, provided that they own a GPS-capable device, and can view all these notes on a map, so that they can see exactly where they created their notes. They can also add location data to existing notes.

Other new features with the application would include PIN Lock, along with a new Evernote widget. The software enables users to lock each note with a PIN, which should prove a great option when the phone or tablet remains with apart from the owner.

“One of the cool things about this feature is that you can still create quick notes via the widget, even when the app is locked–you just won’t be able to view or search your notes until you enter your PIN,” the development team notes.

Not only did the Evernote widget got a new visual appearance, but the application's interface was changed as well, with more info on the home screen (a new progress bar), and with tag hierarchies. Additionally, the application comes with various performance enhancements and bug fixes.
