Eve Online, the space-based MMORPG, is in the history books, for good. Oh, yes... we know many people have this opinion since forever, but now it's official, at least from one point of view: CCP's Eve Online is the first MMO game to be available for download on Steam!

To celebrate this achievement (world record, feature - call it as you wish), all Steam gamers will get a 21-day free trial period for the game and a $5 cheaper first month subscription. And this is a great thing for everybody - for the developers, because they will get a fair amount of new players; for the veterans, because they will get a chance to meet a bunch of new people; and for those who'll get Eve Online from Steam since... well... they play a great MMO almost for free, for two months.

"Launching EVE on Steam means the addition of another fantastic PC game and the introduction of MMOs on Steam," said Jason Holtman, director of business development at Valve. "The team at CCP continues to expand EVE's universe and gameplay for the legions logging in to play each month, just as we continue to expand Steam's consumer and developer features."

Magnus Bergsson, VP of Sales at CCP, agreed: "We are immensely excited and honored that EVE Online will be the first MMO on Steam. It has been the leading online distribution platform for a long time and home to some of the most dedicated gamers around, so we couldn't think of a better fit for EVE Online."

The game is about "space, the final frontier" - humans discover a giant wormhole and are led to an exotic and unclaimed sector of space, a place they called the "New Eden". Of course this golden age didn't last forever, as none does, and soon factions appeared to turn the New Eden into a dark age. And this kind of stories never seem to end...
