Video game developer Epic Games has revealed that it has become so fearful of more leaks linked to its upcoming shooter Gears of War 3 that it has written two different endings for the character Clayton Carmine in order to make sure that players actually play the game in order to see what his final fate is.

Mike Capps, who is the president of Epic Games, has confirmed during the Gamescom 2011 event that leaks are one of the big fears for the developers working on the game, because they make a lot of their work less valuable.

Creating two endings for a character means that, when leaks spoil one of them, the team at Epic has a backup solution and does not have to start again from scratch.

Earlier during 2011 an early build of Gears of War 3 was leaked on torrent sites and a flood of spoilers about the game arrived on fan forums.

Since then the company has said that the leaked version of the game is not even close to the quality and the actual plot of the final release and has also said that all those who post spoilers that affect other players could find that they are unable to play Gears of War 3 when it is finally released.

The fate of Carmine was decided in 2010 when Epic Games launched a campaign on Xbox Live, with players able to buy T-shirts in order to decide whether he should live or die in the end.

All the proceeds from the Carmine campaign, more than 150,000 dollars, were donated to the Child's Play charity.

The game will see the survivors of humanity fight both the familiar enemies of the series and the new mutated Lambent.

Gears of War 3 is set to be launched exclusively on the Xbox 360 on September 30.
