14 DAY TRIAL // Epic Games is working on not one, but three different projects right now, including the already announced Fortnite, the mysterious title that's been leaked via a job listing, and a project built by just three people.
Epic Games has focused a lot in recent years on its new Unreal Engine 4 technology, as it wants to give partners a great engine that will take advantage of all the different platforms that are popular worldwide.
According to Epic's Tim Sweeney, it's important for the Unreal Engine to change alongside the industry if it hopes to remain relevant.
"It feels like we're going through the last 25 years of game history at the rate of four years every year," he said, via GI. "We've always recognized that the industry is in a state of constant change, and those that react fastest are the survivors," he said.
"It means that now, increasingly, we can think about building one game and shipping it on every platform that's appropriate," Sweeney added, listing PCs, consoles, tablets, and the web as platforms for the next games from Epic.
According to the executive, all these platforms have their strengths and are popular in different regions of the world, thereby guaranteeing a huge global market.
"It means we can potentially reach a much larger audience, and it will be increasingly important worldwide. Consoles are specific to the Western markets – North America, Europe – but they really don't exist in Korea, China. I really think we can build one game that goes to all of those markets by supporting the appropriate platforms."
What's more, Sweeney confirmed that there are many Unreal Engine 4-powered projects in development at studios around the world, and that many of them will be able to show off their mechanics towards the end of 2014.
Epic itself has three different games in development, including Fortnite, which is being worked on by 30 employees, a new and mysterious project, and a title that's currently being built by just three people.
