After much speculation, Eminem is finally getting ready to return in front of the camera for a follow-up role to that in the critically acclaimed “8 Mile.” The rapper will star in a new project called “Random Acts of Violence” for 20th Century Fox, it has emerged.

NY Mag’s Vulture is the first to offer the scoop on the story, while also reporting that the project has been in the making for a very long time.

What started out initially as a “poor man’s version of Grand Theft Auto” has changed throughout the years, and is now closer in tone, approach and feel to other successful movies like “The Departed” and “The Town.”

It’s not hard to see where Eminem would fit in here, Vulture says. The rapper’s involvement hasn’t been confirmed yet in any way, but the e-zine claims it has it on good authority confirmation should come soon.

However, since the script has already seen several re-writes, chances are that, by the time this goes in production, the story will have been altered a bit more.

“An ex-con smarter than his past is fresh out of prison and trying to stay legit — but his efforts are complicated by his old gang who wants him back on the job,” Vulture says of the plot.

“So, too, does the FBI, which hopes he’ll wear a wire and bring down the crime syndicate. The ex-con, meanwhile, tries to play both sides against each other long enough to exact revenge against those — on both sides of the law — who sent him to prison in the first place,” the e-zine further notes.

“Insiders tell Vulture that the studio will make one last pass at the script with another writer while Von Ancken is off directing episodic TV, but will likely bring Von Ancken back to direct the film when the screenplay is polished and ready later this year,” the same publication informs.

Eminem’s Shady Films will produce “Random Acts of Violence.” It also oversaw his big screen debut in “8 Mile,” so this was not a surprising move on part of the rapper.

So far, there’s no estimated release date for the film, but make sure you keep an eye on this space for when it’s officially announced.
