A couple of months ago, Lindsay Lohan became the official “creative advisor” for Ungaro, in what was labeled as an attempt on behalf of the fashion house to bring some well-deserved attention onto itself. The first collection bearing Lohan’s signature was trashed by fashion critics and fans alike, which prompted speculation the collaboration might come to an end. As it turns out, Emanuel Ungaro himself also thinks the line was a “disaster,” as StyleNews can confirm.

In a recent interview, Ungaro said that bringing Lindsay Lohan on board, just because she commanded media attention, had been a very bad move on the part of the fashion house bearing his name, but no longer in his possession. Ungaro stands for one thing and Lindsay for a completely different one, so bringing the two together was an uninspired idea that is nothing short of a “disaster,” Ungaro believes.

Unfortunately, he’s powerless as regards the situation. “Emanuel Ungaro, founder of the fashion house which still bears his name, has publicly criticized Lindsay Lohan’s recent collection, European newspapers report. On Monday evening, according to the Agence French Presse, the 76-year old Ungaro told an audience at the Estoril film festival in Lisbon, Portugal on Monday, that the collection on which Lohan served as fashion consultant ‘was a disaster.’ The venerable designer continued, ‘I’m furious but there isn’t a thing I can do. I have absolutely no link with that house,’ added Ungaro who sold his house to an investment fund in 2005,” StyleNews writes.

Ungaro also said, in the same impromptu interview, that the fashion house, because of the many chief designer switches it had undergone in recent years, was on the path to losing the very thing that had made it such a household name. In almost no time, the Ungaro label will “lose its soul,” the venerable designer also said and, as it happens, there is little anyone can do about it because it’s been known to happen to other labels, as well.

“That happens to a lot of designers. We were the creators and patrons, responsible for the creation and destiny of our houses. But when we gave up our houses, we gave up our souls,” Emanuel Ungaro further mentioned. As of now, Lindsay Lohan is still officially on board for another collection with Ungaro, which is supposed to arrive on the catwalk in early 2010.
