CCP, the independent developer behind the MMO EVE Online, has announced that it plans to launch a new retail package for the video games, called the EVE Online: Commissioned Officer Edition, designed specifically to allow new comers to get into the game, which is seen as newbie unfriendly because its complex mechanics and already established player base.

The new edition of the MMO is set to come with an exclusive in game item, called the Cerebral Accelerator, described as a military level implant which will significantly increase the skill development pace for new pilots.

All abilities are boosted by the Cerebral Accelerator but the effects only last for the first 30 days of playtime, meaning that new comers can use the advantage to gain a foothold in the universe and lean the ropes of the game.

The package also includes a CD key for a new account and 30 days of paid play time.

There's also a EVE themed posted that offers hints and tips to players.

The EVE Online: Commissioned Officer Edition will not be delivered through online distribution.

Arnar Gylfason, who is the senior producer working on EVE Online, has stated, “The Commissioned Officers Edition is the best way for a new player to get a running start in the highly competitive environment of EVE Online.”

The distribution duties for the new package will be handled by Atari for North America and a publisher for the other parts of the world will be announced soon.

At the moment CCP is also working on a new major patch for EVE Online, called Incarna, which is set to arrive in the middle of 2011 and will allow pilots to leave their pods and interact face to face inside space stations.

Other smaller expansion will also be created until then to deliver more content and improvements to the game.

CCP is also working on a project called Dust 514, a MMO built around the first person shooter model that is set to arrive on consoles.
