Global Icons turned into caricatures with heroic qualities

EA has just revealed that their development studio in Vancouver is currently handling the latest iteration in the FIFA Street series, due out for PS3 and Xbox 360 in spring 2008. FIFA Street 3 will be somewhat different than other games in the series, adding a touch of humor to the gameplay experience, as each player has been rendered into a stylized caricature with heroic qualities.

Although the game's description fits the Wii-fun-title profile perfectly, the report doesn't mention Nintendo's console, but just Sony's and Microsoft's. Anyway, let's see what else EA has revealed about the game, shall we?

FIFA Street 3 features over 250 of the world's best players representing 18 of the top international teams, according to the official report. As mentioned above, each player has been rendered into a stylized caricature, boasting their own, distinctive style of play with unique abilities, decked out in authentic training kits. You'll have Tricksters, Enforcers, Playmakers and Finishers to choose from and handle different options with them.

Another good thing is that EA is using the same engine as NBA STREET Homecourt, for developing FIFA Street, combined with the AI from FIFA Soccer 08 and ultimately delivering responsive and intuitive ball control that makes it easier to perform tricks and spectacular moves.

"We have completely re-invented the FIFA Street franchise by turning the game's biggest stars into action heroes using art direction that makes you look twice," said Joe Nickolls, producer on the project. "The power of the Next Generation hardware gives us the horsepower to break new ground for consumers, making it the perfect stage to enjoy a multi-player, sports action arcade experience. Casual gamers and sports fans can expect a simplified control system that makes it easier to perform spectacular moves and enjoy the game with friends, yet still be a challenging experience for more seasoned gamers."

But there's another interesting feature that we'd like to discuss before we go and that is "pulsating surroundings." Sounds neat, huh? According to the same report, music is seamlessly infused into the surroundings and, as players perform their tricks and sensational moves, the environments pulsate. It probably looks and feels a lot like Def Jam Icon.

That's about it for now, but remember: FIFA Street 3 is due out in spring 2008 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Hopefully, the publishing giant confirms it for the Wii too, because the features mentioned above fit a Wii title's description perfectly.
