Mario is again one of the main stars of the Nintendo line up of videogames, as shown at E3, which takes place in Los Angeles at the moment. At the Nintendo presentation, quite a few titles featuring the well-known Italian plumber have been unveiled.

One of them is Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, set to appear on the Nintendo DSi and DS Lite, and which tells the story of how minuscule Mario and Luigi managed to survive inside Bowser's belly. Expect to see the game out on shelves before the end of 2009.

The main antagonist of the new game is Fawful, who manages to trick Bowser into eating one very special magic mushroom that makes him inhale everything and anything around him. Among the elements that end up inside Bowser are Mario, his sidekick Luigi and the always precious damsel in distress Princess Peach. Of course, the two Mario brothers will be tasked with getting Peach and then escaping the terrifying stomach of Bowser.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story will tell two stories. One of them follows the inhaling Bowser as he tries to stop the take over of his castle while Mario and Luigi navigate the inside of the big guy so that they can control him and escape the microbial existence. Players can at any time switch between the two stories and see how progress in one of them influences the other.

The full possibilities of the Nintendo DSi will be used by the fresh title, with players needing to turn the device on the side to accommodate an ever growing Bowser and also blowing into the microphone in order to guide characters around.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story seems to be part of an effort by Nintendo to use its most important franchises again to gain the admiration of players who have been a bit put off by the over reliance of the company on casual titles.
