Can a tough, narrative driven, pure blooded role playing game make it in the world of home consoles? This is the question that the developers working at CD Projekt RED, the creators of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, need to answer and at their E3 2011 presentation they argue that the answer is “yes”.

The CD Projekt RED development team showed a demo of the early dungeon level of the game, showing how choice and combat works in the game, and they are saying that their aim is not just to port the game to the Xbox 360 but to adapt it.

This basically means that the changes made to The Witcher 2 will be small and clearly targeted, especially linked to the controller and to the way the game looks.

The game was taxing even to fairly strong PCs when it arrived in May but the Xbox 360 demo looked pretty well, with only small differences, mainly in view distances.

The team also says that all downloadable content which is delivered to the PC until The Witcher 2 arrives on the Microsoft home consoles will be free for all players and that they will work with the platform holder to make other future content also free.

The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings has quite a bit of mature content but the developers are saying that despite their M rating on the PC Microsoft has not asked them to remove everything from the game to make it appeal to a wider family audience.

The team at CD Project RED are not talking about whether they are aiming to get the game out on the PlayStation 3 at a later date but they are saying that their commitment to the Xbox 360 is complete and that the company is looking for some good developers for the Sony platform.

The Xbox 360 launch date is not yet set but will come before the end of the year.
