Representatives for songwriter Lou Reed denied yesterday he personally forbade Susan Boyle from singing his song “A Perfect Day” on America’s Got Talent. An e-mail shows otherwise.

TMZ, which was also the first to break the story of Susan’s departure from Los Angeles in tears and feeling snubbed for not being allowed to perform the song on the show, got a hold of an e-mail from Susan’s camp to the producers of the show.

It seems to confirm that, indeed, it was Reed who did not want Susan to sing his song, and therefore refused to let her to do so.

The mail is from Susan’s manager and is directed to people at Freemantle Media, the company behind America’s Got Talent.

“Susan was absolutely devastated to be told on the morning of the show taping that Lou Reed had personally decided to block her singing his already much covered song, ‘Perfect Day,’ on America’s Got Talent in L.A,” reads the mail.

“We obviously had no idea of this prior to leaving London. None of us can understand the decision given that it’s such a beautiful rendition of the song,” the singer’s manager further says.

The e-mail also explains why Susan refused to do another song for the show and chose instead to fly back to the UK: she’d learned about Reed’s refusal only two hours before she was supposed to go on stage.

Because she couldn’t have possibly known things would come to this, Susan had not prepared another song to sing on the show, therefore she had no other option but to leave.

Simon Cowell, who acts as Executive Producer on America’s Got Talent, also learned about the Reed vs. Boyle situation and would want it solved asap – preferably with Susan taking the stage with “A Perfect Day.”

“We just got this statement from Simon Cowell, creator and Executive Producer of America’s Got Talent, who says if Reed did turn thumbs down it’s ‘petty – so pathetic’,” TMZ writes.

Cowell even uses the opportunity to send Reed a message.

“Loads of people have covered this song... Well Lou, if you’re listening to this, do we have permission, yes or no, to put the song on America’s Got Talent next week? Personal request from me,” he says.

TMZ also has a snippet of Susan Boyle’s version of “A Perfect Day.” As with everything else she’s worked on, it’s truly a gorgeous song.
