EVE Online has been having some issues lately, with the developers at CCP issuing an apology to players and detailing long term plans, but the company seems to be now focusing on launching its shooter Dust 514.

Speaking to the United States official PlayStation Blog Brandon Laurino, who is the executive producer working on Dust 514, has stated, “It is the deepest shooter with the richest universe ever conceived. There have been attempts to bring MMO games to consoles in the past but we believe we’re now in a position to do it properly, using existing features on PS3 and the PlayStation Network, and collaboratively developing new features to support our vision.”

He added, “We’re breaking so much ground with DUST 514: we’re not only building a full console MMO; we’re building one that feeds into another MMO on a completely different platform. We’re breaking more ground by bringing the microtransaction business model to a console shooter for the first time. All of this was inconceivable not too long ago.”

The executive producer then went on to offer some details on how the two games will interact, saying that they will share the single shard structure, meaning that they are effectively populating the same universe.

Those who are playing the gritty shooter game down on the planet's of the universe can count on support from the player's who fight with fleets up above and EVE Online players can take part in universe wide events triggered by those who play Dust 514.

CCP promises that the shooter will offer both squad based and vehicle powered combat and that the tactical freedom of the players will be nearly limitless, using the same template that has made EVE Online a success.

Even the beta for the game will interact with EVE Online, although at the moment neither Sony nor CCP are talking about possible dates for it.
