The launch of the new ViewPhone 3 in India does not come as a surprise, especially given the fact that it offers dual-SIM capability, which so praised among Indian consumers.

Unveiled back in January at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, ViewPhone 3 is manufactured by ViewSonic, a company focused on delivering affordable products above all else.

This is another reason ViewPhone 3 might be very popular in India. It appears that ViewSonic has teamed up with Reliance Digital to exclusively offer the ViewPhone 3 in India.

ViewSonic ViewPhone 3 will soon be available in all Reliance Digital store locations for just Rs 9,990 (185 USD or 145 EUR) off-contract.

Another selling point of the device is Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, which is complemented by a proprietary ViewSonic 3D UI. Obviously, it’s unlikely that the smartphone would receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in the future.

Unfortunately, the folks at AndroidOS who had the chance to take the phone for a spin claim the ViewPhone 3 is a bit laggy, so they recommend installing a third-party launcher to get rid of the smartphone’s sluggishness.

Other than this, the ViewSonic ViewPhone 3 is a pure mid-budget Android phone, as the phone is powered by an 800 MHz single -ore processor and packs 512MB of RAM, 512MB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Furthermore, the smartphone sports a decent 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display, which is a bit awkward due to its low 480 x 320 pixels resolution.

There’s also a 5-megapixel rear photo snapper with autofocus and video recorder, as well as a 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

In the connectivity front, ViewSonic ViewPhone 3 offers HSDPA (7.2Mbps), Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hotspot capability, along with Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB.
