Dragon Age II will be on the receiving end of a big add-on later this month, with BioWare, its developer, confirming that the Legacy DLC is set to deliver a new batch of adventures for the main protagonist Hawke, the Champion of Kirkwall.

Dragon Age II was released earlier this year and gained critical acclaim for its simplified role-playing mechanics, even if it recycled lots of environments and scrapped a big part of the exploration gameplay.

Now, BioWare is trying to make up for the sins of Dragon Age II, and has confirmed that the first full-pledged add-on for the game, entitled Legacy, will be released later this year.

After the day-one DLC called the Exiled Prince, and the special weapons and armor packs that appeared a couple of months ago, Legacy is bringing a brand new adventure for the protagonist, Hawke, in which he or she is going to explore the past of their father, quest that takes them out of Kirkwall, the main location of the game, and into a brand new territory.

There, Hawke and his companions are going to explore unique locations like a Grey Warden prison, while being tracked down by a vicious criminal cartel, as well as by new variety of Darkspawn, the monsters that plague the world of Dragon Age II.

Legacy brings plenty of all-new locations and dungeons for players to explore as well as a more strategic take on the fast-paced gameplay, which forces gamers to use all of the abilities of Hawke and his companions, in order to take them down.

What's more, the add-on also allows players to craft a powerful class-specific weapon, which can be brought back into the regular experience. Once you get the add-on, you can start it from any moment in the main story.

Dragon Age II is going to receive the Legacy DLC on July 26, on the PC and Mac platforms for 800 BioWare Points, on the PlayStation 3 for $9.99 and on the Xbox 360 for 800 Microsoft Points.
