BioWare has unveiled the three canonical endings for Dragon Age: Origins that will be included in the sequel in order to allow players who are not interested in importing a save game to set the state of the game world at the beginning of their adventure.

It seems that BioWare is not choosing to use the same mechanics as in Mass Effect 2, where players could set the state of the game world by choosing items in a conversation if they chose not to use a previous save file.

The three endings that will be included in Dragon Age 2 are:

- “Hero of Ferelden” - this is the default choice for those who do not import an Origins save game and means that the Fifth Blight was defeated by a human Grey Warden that survived the ordeal, with Alistair being the ruler of land;

- “The Martyr” - the Grey Warden was a Dalish Elf that chose to die in order to kill the Arcdemon and stop the Blight with Anora and Alistair sharing the power;

- “No Compromise” - the Grey Warden is a Dwarf of noble origin who sent the traitor Loghain to die against the Archdemon, then sent Alistair into exile and put Anora on the throne before returning to Orzammar to take his rightful title.

The endings described by BioWare and the variety of possibilities that a save game import introduces suggest that Dragon Age 2 will only make marginal use of characters and outcomes that come from Origins or from its Awakenings expansion, with world flavor being the only probable impact most players will see.

Dragon Age 2 focuses on an all new character named Hawke, who is established as being human by BioWare and will have fully voiced dialog, and will show how he rises from his humble beginnings to one of the most important players in the world of the franchise.

The BioWare role-playing game is set to be released on March 8, 2011 on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC.
