14 DAY TRIAL // Hamrick Software has released a new version of its flagship OS X app, VueScan. The software assists Mac users in producing quality scans, allowing tweaks to color balance, and more. Recent updates added support for most high-quality flatbed and film scanners, as well as for IR cleaning. The latest version fixes a few issues with several Canon and NeatDesk scanners, while improving Spanish language support.
According to the release notes for VueScan 8.5.19, Hamrick Software has been able to resolve a few problems with Canon 5600F transparency scans, and with some Canon scanners not being recognized. The new release also fixes an issue with crashing when the NeatDesk scanner was attached and, as noted above, improves Spanish language support.
“VueScan 0.1 was first released in 1998 with support for a single scanner on Windows only. Within 5 years VueScan supported more than 400 scanners and after 10 years of development, VueScan now supports more than 1,200 scanners on 3 operating systems and in 40 languages, has been downloaded more than 5 million times and has been purchased by more than 170,000 people worldwide,” Ed Hamrick, the creator of VueScan, said.
With two Editions of VueScan (Standard and Professional) available, users only need to download a single file for either version. Upon downloading the application for the first time, VueScan operates as a free trial. As soon as users purchase and enter the serial number, the Standard Edition or Professional Edition features are enabled. Also, the dollar-sign watermark is disabled.
Existing VueScan users can update to the latest version for free. To update, they just have to download the trial version using the link below, and the software will automatically recognize if they've already purchased it. They just have to install it over their old version of VueScan. Upgrades are free in the first year after one purchases the Standard Edition. Upgrades are always free if users purchase the Professional Edition. VueScan requirements call for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) or later and a supported scanner.
