Mac users should be happy to hear that their favorite BitTorrent client has just been updated to include tons of new stuff and fixes to some of their reported issues with the software. Transmission 1.60 Beta 1 is a free download available right here, on Softpedia.

Transmission is a BitTorrent client much like Vuze, or uTorrent. The software is open source, while most of the code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, with select code licensed under the liberal MIT License. According to the release notes, the latest available version of Transmission adds these key enhancements:

· Random port, with optional randomization on startup. · Transfer prioritization. · Option to specify if transfers are included in the global bandwidth limits. · Updated UPnP code to miniupnpc-1.3. · Groups can have a default location when adding transfers. · The speed limit scheduler can now be applied to only specific days. · Bonjour support for the web interface. · File filter field in the inspector. · Option to include beta releases when auto-updating (using modified Sparkle 1.5). · Portuguese localization. · Daemon – Watch folder for auto-adding torrents.

The developer asks users to note that Transmission 1.60b1 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later. Groups, which has been moved to preferences, can now be auto-assigned to transfers when adding based on multiple criteria. On the Web side, Transmission adds file selection and prioritization, and an option to verify local data. A "Remove Data" bug has also been addressed.

Transmission has recently added support for Internet Protocol version 6. Internet Protocol version 6 – in short IPv6 – is the next-generation Internet Layer protocol for packet-switched Internetworks and the Internet. IPv6 was the first to receive widespread use, being designated as the successor to version 4 by the publication of a Standards Track specification, RFC 2460, in December 1998.
