SPB Software, a leading brand in the mobile software development area, announced on Wednesday that it had released the SPB News 2.0, an intelligent news reader that had been previously available as the SPB Insight. The application, the company says, offers users the possibility to read full articles on their Windows Mobile-powered handsets even when they are offline.

Not only that users will have the opportunity to read all their daily news from their chosen online sources but they will also get to enjoy doing that anytime they want to, and will benefit from receiving both full texts of the articles as well as the images that accompany the news. In addition, the company says, the new SPB News 2.0 sports a brand-new user interface, which is touch friendly, supports touch gestures, as well as automatic updates and smart scrolling in articles.

The SPB News 2.0 application for Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system comes with an online catalog with more than 1000 news feeds that have been grouped in different categories, including Sports & Leisure, Business & Finance, Entertainment, General News & Media, and more, up to more than 70.

In addition to the large number of online news feeds, SPB News 2.0 also comes with support for article thumbnails, with enhanced RSS/Atom support, as well as with unique rich-text news technology. The channels of SPB News can be updated either via USB or via Wi-Fi or other wireless data connection. At the same time, the company notes, a wide range of other improvements and stability fixes have been included in the new release as well.

The owners of a Windows Mobile 5 and later (Professional or Standard edition) mobile phone will be able to enjoy the features that the new SPB News 2.0 offers them. The app comes with a 15-day trial period, while its price tag has been set at $19.95. Those who already acquired SPB Insight 1.X can upgrade to the new version for free.
