Opera Software has quietly rolled out Opera 11.01 Build 1189 RC1 for all supported platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux) fixing some common crashes. The new version is immediately available for download from Softpedia.

“The build you have all been waiting for, Opera 11.01 RC1. Let us know what you think,” Ruarí Ødegaard blogs for Opera Software.

The tester/QA for the Desktop team at Opera claims that the Norwegian software company is very close to releasing a new stable version of the browser, and that they are only interested in regressions from the 11.00 final release.

As such, users are urged to post messages about other bugs in the Opera forums,  not in the comments for Ødegaard’s post.

“All further work will be going into a future version of Opera,” Ødegaard notes.

Released in December, Opera 11 delivers a cool new feature called “tab stacking”.

As it name implies, the function allows users to stack tabs into groups, eliminating the clutter for those who have dozens of tabs open all the time.

“Opera 11 combines elegant design, smart updates to some of our most popular features and new ways to customize Opera to your preferences,” Opera Software said at the time.

“Tab stacking is a better way to organize your open tabs. Simply drag one tab on top of another to create a stack,” the Norwegian company explained in its December 16 report.

In addition to tab stacking, the new version brought extensions support, and visual mouse gestures.

Opera 11 also ships with a “safer address field” which displays a clear badge indicating the security level, while information about the web site in question is just a click away, according to Opera Software.

Opera Software has also confirmed plans to release a tablet-compatible version of its web browser.

Previewed earlier this month at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the tablet-optimized version of Opera is expected to make it on the Apple iPad as well, despite being showcased on Android devices.
