A new version of Firefox for Mobile, also known under the codename of Fennec, is now available for download for the owners of handsets running under Google's Android operating system, or under the Maemo platform.

There are many new features included in the new release, Firefox 4 Beta 3 for Android and Maemo, along with a range of fixes and improvements, but there are also some known issues that users would have to have in mind when downloading and installing the application.

According to Mozilla, the Firefox 4 Beta for Android and Maemo mobile browser was built on a technology platform similar with the desktop version of the Firefox browser, but it features a great deal of optimizations for use on mobile handsets.

The release notes for the new Beta 3 flavor of the application includes:

Android - Improved support for Android keyboards, both hardware and on-screen - New Android-style menus - Fixed a bug in opening links from other apps - Support for uploading files - "Save as PDF" command in the site menu - Fixed rendering of Arabic and Farsi text (on devices with Arabic/Farsi fonts installed)

- New UI for simpler setup - Support for custom Firefox Sync servers

- Full-screen open video - Improved audio performance At the same time, Mozilla announced that the new application version comes with a series of changes to the user interface, among which we can count the fact that users would be able to enjoy copy/paste in URL bar.

Among the other new features in Firefox 4.0 Beta 3, we can mention the fact that search engines appear in the awesome screen as you type, or that users would have the possibility to browse recommended add-ons via the add-on manager.

Developers would have their share of new features as well, such as localStorage API, or orientation events, a brand new functionality for the Android version of the web browser.

Firefox 4 Beta 3 for Android and Maemo also comes with crash reporting for crashes in web content.
