The demo for Duke Nukem Forever has now been released on the Steam and the Xbox Live services, for the PC and Xbox 360, respectively, for all users to download and get a taste of this long awaited title.

Duke Nukem Forever has been in development for over a decade, starting life with 3D Realms studio but, after the bankruptcy of the company, was shifted to Gearbox Software, alongside a few other studios in order to finally get it released to the world.

The title was launched a few weeks ago, while a demo was released for members of the First Access Club, composed of those who pre-ordered Duke Nukem Forever or purchased the Borderlands Game of the Year edition.

Now, that demo version has been deployed to the PC and Xbox 360 platforms, through the Steam digital download service and the Xbox Live online service, for those who have the Gold membership.

The PlayStation 3 edition of the demo is set to be released "as soon as possible," so gamers on the Sony platform will also get a taste of Duke Nukem Forever in the near future.

"After 15 long years, against all odds, Duke Nukem Forever has launched. If you haven't played the game yet, now is your chance to try out part of gaming history and have some big fun Duke style with the Duke Nukem Forever demo. Blow up the alien bastards, interact with Duke's world, woo the ladies, drive Duke's monster truck, boost up your ego, and much much more."

The demo, as highlighted in our impressions article on it, consists of a massive boss fight between Duke and a big alien on a football field, as well as a vehicle section where Duke drives his monster truck in a desert environment, running over enemies and causing all sorts of havoc, before running out of gas and needing to head into a mine to find some fuel.
