Straight out from Nokia Beta Labs comes another application for devices running under the Symbian operating system, namely CNN 1.2 beta with CNN breaking news, which brings forth a long list of improvements.

Weighing in at 1.1 MB, the new application version is available for S60 5th edition devices as well, and requires for the PR4 firmware update to have been installed on the Nokia 5800 handsets.

One other important enhancement that the new application comes with is a new look & feel for CNN Breaking News dialogue.

At the same time, the development team notes that there are a wide range of other enhancements included into the mix, although not all of them are available for all devices.

The release notes for the new CNN 1.2 Beta includes:

- New look & feel for CNN Breaking News dialogue. - Home screen (alias widget) support. Preferred category can be selected from settings. Default is top stories. - Added support for S60 5th ed phones. Note: 5800 users must have PR4 installed. CNN Video-on-demand and CNN Live do not yet work in this release on S60 5th ed devices. - It is now possible to shoot an image/video directly from iReport/submit. - Based on Qt 4.7, previous version using Qt 4.6 - Many small improvements.

Those who downloaded and installed the CNN 1.1 beta application on their devices should remove that app flavor prior to installing the new release, so as to ensure that specific settings in the software are removed.

To remove the app, users will have to go to Options -> Organize, then long press on the CNN icon and hit the Delete button.

To remove the Ovi Notification support package, users will need to go to Settings -> Application manager -> Installed apps, then long press on the Ovi Notification Support package (size 2kb) and hit the uninstall button.

Along with the new flavor of the application, a new version of Ovi Support package will be downloaded and installed, with a series of fixes included into the mix.

“It would be great if you could install CNN 1.2. before the weekend, as you will be doing manual test push notifications on Saturday, Sunday and Monday 10:00am Pacific time,” the development team notes.

“Starting on Monday, we would like to run a survey and confirm that you saw CNN Breaking News dialogue and collect initial feedback.”
