How is it possible for such a promising project to be dropped just like that?

For those of you hoping to see Master Chief on the big screen sometime in the near future (meaning a year or so), wait no more, and not because it's coming out faster than expected, but because it's not coming out at all. Palgn.com.au is reporting that "the film is entirely dead," quoting the director appointed to turn the Halo series into a film, Neill Blomkamp:

'The film is entirely dead. In the configuration it was in. Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration,' Blomkamp informed Creativity-Online.com. 'It's not so much me as the entire vessel sank. Basically, it was a combination of; there were two studios involved that weren't getting along in the process of making it, Universal and Fox. That kind of stuff happens, it's a fragile industry. So the film collapsed at the end of last year, and it's been dead, ever since then. I'll be curious to see what happens.'

So how is it possible for what could have been the greatest movie ever to experience so many difficulties that it had to be dropped? I mean, we can all understand that making a big time movie such as Titanic and Armageddon can drain a team of resources and stamina, but when the public is ready to pay the big bucks to see it, there's no room for error. Sure, we've heard some while ago that things weren't going as planned but never was there any doubt that the movie wasn't coming out sooner or later.

What could have possibly gone wrong? Surely they were able to find someone that could act as well as fit in the Spartan armor, so that couldn't have possibly been an issue. What else? Budget? Again, this couldn't have been an obstacle either, since many companies were involved with the movie, and they surely weren't small ones.

Whatever the answer, one thing is for sure: the Halo movie adaptation is "dead". Period. The director himself said it, so that's that. Until someone else is appointed for the job, you can all just enjoy the Halo games for now and look forward to Halo Wars.
