Apple has released Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 2.6, an update that extends RAW image compatibility for Aperture 2, iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09 for three Canon cameras, the Nikon D5000 and the Olympus E-30.

As usual, Apple's used the Support section of its web site to detail the contents of the latest Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update, posting the following description.

About Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.6

This update extends RAW image compatibility for Aperture 2, iPhoto 08, and iPhoto 09 for the following cameras: Canon EOS 500D Canon Rebel T1i Canon EOS Kiss Digital X3 Nikon D5000 Olympus E-30

Aperture, currently at version 2.1.3, is a free update for users of Apple's photography software application, which requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger, or Mac OS X 10.5.3 (or later) Leopard. The program is designed to assist professional photographers in the post-production work, being optimized for speed thanks to a powerful search engine and the Quick Preview mode for rapid-fire photo browsing. Using these two elements, even those working with large libraries will be able to get the best results. Employing an expanded suite of adjustment tools including Recovery, Vibrancy, Vignette, and a soft-edged Retouch brush – all with the highest-quality RAW processing –, professionals and casual users alike can enhance their photos with ease.

Aperture system requirements include (recommended configuration): a Mac computer with a 2 GHz or faster Intel Core Duo processor or dual 2 GHz or faster PowerPC G5 processors; 2 GB of RAM; a graphics card including ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition, 9800 XT, 9800 Pro, X1900 XT, or X1600; the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series or 7800; the GT or NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500. Users also need some 5 GB of available disk space for the application and sample projects.

iPhoto has also received an update recently. Bringing the current version to 8.0.3, the new release addresses general compatibility, improves overall stability and fixes a number of issues in key areas of the application, including: publishing to MobileMe, Facebook, and Flickr; slideshow playback; location (GPS) info embedded in emailed photos and exported JPEGs.
