Blizzard has released a brand new gathering place for fans of its Diablo role-playing franchise, as the company launched the official Diablo III community website.

Diablo III is the next big project from Blizzard, as the company has worked on the new-generation role-playing dungeon crawler for quite some time, promising to launch it when it's done, just like the developer has always done with its major releases.

We're getting pretty close to the release of Diablo III, however, as Blizzard promised either to deploy the game later this year, if things go smoothly during the upcoming beta stage, or in early 2012, if there's still work to be done.

Now, Blizzard has taken another step towards the completion of Diablo III, by deploying the official community website for the game, available at this address.

The first post welcomes fans of the franchise and showcases just what they'll be able to check out in the new site.

"Welcome to the new Diablo III community site! This will be your sanctuary for all the latest developments from New Tristram and beyond, featuring community forums and regular updates to this blog, where you can post comments and share news items via Twitter, Facebook, and other popular social media outlets. You'll want to check out our news feed regularly. We’ll use it to share everything about Diablo III and to highlight recent community activity, including your most entertaining videos, art, comics, fansites, and much more."

Fans have more than enough reasons to keep visiting the website, as lots of Diablo III resources will be made available over time, while contests, such as an outlandish beard growing one, are being held.

"Take the time to get acquainted with the site and be sure to come back often. We've got a lot in store leading up to the release of Diablo III, including the launch of the Game Guide section featuring lore, characters, classes, maps, and more. Additionally, you’ll see us on the new Diablo III forums. We look forward to sharing and discussing all the latest Diablo III news, content, and updates with you for a long time to come."

Diablo III got some other big news last week, when Blizzard confirmed that it was quite serious about releasing the role-playing dungeon crawler on consoles, but only after the PC version is complete.
