The developers at publisher Square Enix who are working on the Final Fantasy XIV MMO have announced a number of details about the new patch, which was initially set to arrive during the second week of February and has now received another two-week delay.

The new update will also deliver seven new classic jobs, complete with a number of related character abilities and complete artifact gear.

There are two new instanced raids for groups to experience, with new loot given out based on performance and a number of new seasonal events which add variety to the game experience.

Players can now also get private residences and there is Chocobo armor for them to craft and then use.

When it comes to the actual mechanics of Final Fantasy XIV, the crowd control has been reworked, making it more intuitive, and a number of spells have been modified to suit the new system.

There are also changes to classes, recipes and the effects of food and medicine.

The User Interface has also been reworked to make it easier for gamers to see their options and choose the powers and abilities that are best suited to the situation.

Those who want to get a much more detailed breakdown of the upcoming changes can check out this official forum thread.

There’s also a discussion about merging game servers because of low player populations, but Square Enix says that any changes in this area will take place later during the year.

Final Fantasy XIV was launched in the final months of 2010 and was supposed to revive the multiplayer side of the franchise while XIII showed gamers its single player chops.

Unfortunately, the MMO failed to impress and players declared it fundamentally broken on launch.

Square Enix has since then pledged to fix all problems and launch a 2.0 version of Final Fantasy XIV before the end of this year.
